RMS PTA Committed to Excellence!
The Renfroe PTA is committed to helping school faculty and staff make Renfroe the best middle school in the US! It will take lots of work, so please join in and help. Let any of this year's officers or committee members know how you can lend a hand. 2007-08 Renfroe PTA Board and Committees
Upcoming Events
On Tuesday, February 12 at the Decatur Recreation Center, the Renfroe Middle School boys and girls basketball teams will again challenge the adults of the Renfroe community in a shoot out. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the tip-off will be at 7:00 pm. Hot dogs, popcorn, drinks and other concessions will be sold, cheerleaders will cheer, and our Principal, Mr. Roaden will be our Emcee! Several parent volunteers have already stepped up to the plate to organize and make this event even better than last year's exciting nail biter. The basketball coaches, dance, cheer, band, and art faculty members have been contacted to enlist their group's participation. We need you to volunteer! We need adult players, both staff members and parents--women and men! Also, we need some parents and staff to be part of the adult cheerleading squad. We need parents to sell tickets and manage the gate, to help ensure proper clean up, to help with concessions, to do scorekeeping, and to provide general assistance in organizing a successful evening. Everyone will be asked to pay an admission fee so we can recoup the costs of the evening, and possibly add a little to the general PTA fund. It will be $2 for each adult, $1 for each child, with a cap of $5 total per family. If you would like to be a part of this great Renfroe tradition, please email or call Eric Tumperi 404-377-0731 or send him an email message. Internet Safety and Cyberbullying in the Digital Age
The City Schools of Decatur, in partnership with the Decatur Recreation Afterschool Program, invite all parents to attend a program entitled “Internet Safety and Cyberbullying in the Digital Age” at Renfroe Middle School on Thursday, February 21st, at 7:00 pm. Dr. Patricia Agatston, co-author of the book entitled, Cyber Bullying: Bullying in the Digital Age, will be our presenter for the evening. Dr. Agatston is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Prevention/Intervention Center, a student assistance program in the Cobb County School District. A two-time recipient of the Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention’s VIP award, Dr. Agatston has been quoted in articles on cyber bullying in Time Magazine and Good Housekeeping, as well as various local print and television media. We hope you will join us! Childcare for school-aged children will be provided by the 21st Century Community Learning Grant. To reserve a space for childcare, please RSVP to Heather Borowski, Instructional Technology Coordinator for City Schools of Decatur, or call her at 404-370-3848 ext. 17.

S.T.E.M.C.E.L.L. Unlike other clubs, which are usually focused on a particular activity, S.T.E.M.C.E.L.L. is focused on a particular philosophy, namely: learning interesting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics just for the fun of it. In particular, that means we will be doing very cool stuff (at our first meeting we will be serving Diet Coke and Mentos....), going on awesome field trips, meeting inspiring people, and all the while, having a great time. The club may include LEGO robotics, math competitions, and/or science projects. These areas in particular, can all be developed into college scholarships. Moreover, we hope to encourage similar clubs both at DHS and Glennwood Academy in the future. This club will encourage mentoring and resources drawn from our very own hometown geek community of parents, teachers, and retirees, right here in Decatur. Please contact Lew Lefton (404-385-0052), parent chair, and he'll keep you in the loop for future events and volunteer opportunities!
